Schedule

For one week students are encouraged to decorate their feet and walk or cycle to and from school (or at least part of the way).

Each student earns Frequent Walker Points for each day they walk or cycle. They scratch a Frequent Walker Card (that goes on the fridge) to see how many points they have earned.

Each class produces a book called Our Walking Adventures. The first chapter encourages students to internalize their walking experience as an 'adventure' rather than just as a 'means of transport'. The second chapter generates ideas of how to make streets safer for kids. The class producing the best book wins a Pizza Party.

The week is used to focus the attention of the wider community on the need to make streets safer for kids. Parents and the general public are encouraged to drive slower and to display stickers and decorated shoes on cars and front fences.
